It's only a few more days until I move from here, put everything in storage, and start my four month road trip across Canada and the USA. It's funny and heartwarming all at the same time, looking at the hundreds of invitations I received, and suggestions for places to visit. But first stop - barring any unforeseen circumstance - will be June 26 to the 30th in Seattle, Washington, to visit my friends Robin Nobles and John Alexander at their Search Engine Workshop. SEO Mastery Workshops ==> http://www.cdzn.com/sew I won't be speaking at the event, it's purely a social visit. But if you are planning to be at the workshop, I'll be hanging around for a couple of days, so you can meet me during the breaks and after the sessions. Feel free to ask me questions in person, on any topics that you desire. A lot of you were asking me about back issues of IMS and if I still plan on making html and pdf versions of the newsletter... Sorry, but I won't be posting html or pdf versions while I'm on the road trip. (Even though technically... the blog is in html format ;-) Most of the recent back issues have been already been posted on the IMS blog. So if you're the type that likes to keep up with the most recent stories as they get written, be sure to add the blog to your RSS reader or bookmark the page. IMS Blog ==> http://homepage.mac.com/dmcorp/ Or if you'd rather wait for the bi-weekly email edition of the newsletter, that's ok too :-) I'm just glad to have you. If you're looking for the full versions of the back issues - in case you missed any - most of the recent ones are posted on the IMS site. Old IMS ==> http://www.internetmarketingsecrets.com/backissues.html And once again... thank you so much for the invitations to come and visit your town while on my road trip. I'll try to "stop in" and visit as many of you as I can. I'll keep you posted on where I'll be next, in case you want to meet up somewhere or go for a coffee. - - - - - New Affiliate Marketing Course Just for Beginners According to my May 2006 Survey, 19% of you reading this newsletter are beginners and novices when it comes to internet marketing. If you're one of them, and you want to know - everything there is to know - about creating Affiliate Revenue sites, and actually earning a living from them, then here's something just for you. Professional educator and all round nice guy, Dr. Andy Williams, ran a series on "Building Affiliate Sites" for 26 consecutive issues in his newsletter. In case you missed it, now you can get the entire series, plus some additional tips and tricks. Pretty much everything you need to know about affiliate marketing. He starts with identifying a niche, performing keyword research, and goes into detail on how to create theme based web pages. We're shown how to find suitable hosting, domain registrars and web editors. We're given every step through each process of creating sites, to advanced linking strategies, putting ads on our sites, and tracking our visitors. So many beginners ask me these same questions, and I always suggest they read Dr. Andy's series. Now it's all in one neatly organized PDF file called, "Creating Fat Affiliate Sites" and you can download it for free. Download Dr. Andy's Free Course ==> http://www.cdzn.com/fas All that Dr. Andy asks is that you subscribe to his newsletter. You don't have to... but you'd be silly not to, as it's one of the best ones out there... next to mine. ;-) So if you're in that group called novice or beginner, this course will connect the dots and help you get to where you want to be. But don't just download it and let it sit on your hard drive. Set aside some time to read it, make notes as you do, then act on your ideas. Inspiration is sure to come as you read. - - - - - Yahoo Follows Nofollow Links? Speaking of Dr. Andy Williams, he was first to note - in his newsletter - that Yahoo seemed to be ignoring the nofollow tag. The only way to find his newly created site was through a nofollow link, but Yahoo did just that. It spidered the pages and indexed them all... even though it's not supposed to. Since I didn't have any proof of my own, I got on the phone to search engine "uber" guru Leslie Rohde, creator of OptiLink (the best tool for organic SEO). OptiLink ==> http://www.cdzn.com/opl He told me that, "Yes, Yahoo appears to have been ignoring the nofollow link for some time." Several of his "exclusively nofollow linked" pages are showing up in the Yahoo index. Whether the links count towards link popularity is a moot point and difficult to prove. The only point here, is that Yahoo is not supposed to be crawling and spidering pages that are linked to using the nofollow tag. If they continue the practice, will all the nofollow links get found by Google as well? Well... if they're in the Yahoo index as legit links, and Google routinely spiders Yahoo... won't Google eventually find all the links that were "supposed to be" nofollow? Just thinking about that makes my brain hurt ;-). Moral of the story is... if you want something NOT to be found, do so using your .htaccess file and exclude all robots from that particular page. Now all we need is for someone to create a nice public tutorial on how to do that. :-) - - Adv - - New to Internet Marketing? Get the RSS to Blog Mass Installer ==> http://www.cdzn.com/rmi - - - - - Keyword Avalanche Washes Hat ;-) Adds PLR Articles In case you haven't seen the new Keyword Avalanche, there's a whole lot of changes going on. The biggest one appears to be the addition of several hundred PLR articles per month. These are copyright free articles that you can use however you want. In addition, they've started Operation "White Hat" as a fool-proof plan for the average person to monetize AdSense and affiliate programs. (Prior to this, many of the portal building techniques by the Avalanche were a little on the "Grey Hat" side.) This latest Article Blitz... is as pure as fresh fallen snow. They've hired a former US Army Captain - whose currently making a five figure income part-time - to lead the operation. He's created a simple step-by-step blueprint for their "Operation White Hat" article marketing formula. And there's a whole lot more goodies on the horizon, including some new site building software that I'm not at liberty to talk about... yet. But as soon as I get my mitts on it, you'll be the first to know. So if you've been a Keyword Avalanche member in the past, you might consider re-joining for the hundreds of "white hat" articles per month. Or if you've never seen the inside of the Avalanche there's never been a better time to join. It was a PageRank 4. While it was down, it had PR0 and was NOT indexed by Google. I moved the domain to a new host and the very next day, it has PageRank 3 and all 11 pages are indexed. So, is Google actually "dynamically" updating their index as things happen? In the past, a web site that went offline for a week, would take a month or longer to get re-indexed. What do you think is going on? Answer: I think that the change in PR, was an artifact of a reset or reboot. Your site must have been a low PR4 and when your site got re-indexed, a couple of links (including internal ones) were left out of the calculation, leaving you with a high PR3. I suspect that the reason your site got found so quickly, is that you put your web pages in place, before changing the DNS at your domain registrar. If you had done it the other way round... pointing your nameserver without any pages on your new host, then yes, it could have meant having your site offline and unindexed for a week or more. The so called "dynamic" indexing at Google is not new, it's been around for a while. Think of it like a giant bread mixer, where flour is slowly incorporated into the mix, instead of having it thrown in all at once, and ending up with an unmanageable blob. A while back - over a year ago - Google did the "dance" thing and updated its data centers on a monthly basis. Nowadays they are always "eating the elephant one bite at a time" and "folding" new pages into their index on a constant basis. Not only that, just to keep you on your toes... or crazy if you're chasing the algos... different data centers are displaying different results, depending where they are in the mix cycle. They are also running different algo experiments from different data centers... so your milage... er... position in the SERPs, can often depend on where you are located geographically, and your results will likely differ from mine. Yep... like the "Big Daddy" upgrade or not, one of the benefits of is that Google is a lot more active in spidering the web frontier and new sites. Especially when it comes to links from RSS, trusted sites and the Blogosphere. - - - - - XSite Pro or MiniSite Creator... If I had to choose... Question: I was debating whether to get Jim Edwards' MiniSite Creator course, or go with XSite Pro to make my affiliate revenue sites. It seems like XSitePro is quicker and a lot more flexible, but MiniSite Creator might be more detailed. Does one offer info that the other one doesn't? If you had to chose one, which one would it be? Answer: Which one you get depends on what you want to do. They both offer extensive video training. Jim Edwards' MiniSite Creator (MSC) is a solid course. It teaches you html and how to make sites by hand, using mostly free and low cost tools. It's a complete and detailed course on site making basics. By the end of Jim's course you'll be able to make sites the old fashioned way... by hand. You might not win any graphic design awards, but at least you'll be familiar with html code, and have the ability to edit it, should you ever need to do so. Mini Site Creator ==> http://www.cdzn.com/msc Intellimon's XSite Pro (XSP) is great for making good-looking sites, and is the production tool of choice for most of my friends who use Windows. It's not a course, so you won't be learning html, as most of that is hidden under-the-hood so to speak. It's a publishing platform that lets you pump out sites quickly and easily without having to know all the nitty gritty behind-the-scenes stuff. Also, when it comes to the video training, I'll have to give a slight edge to XSite Pro for one reason. The MSC videos are on CDs, and any training that "ships to your door" can get outdated pretty quickly. The XSite videos are online and therefore easier for them to keep up to date. Perhaps the best way to answer you question is with an analogy... If you want to know how to FIX the car get Mini Site Creator. If you just want to know how to DRIVE the car get XSite Pro. If I had to suggest just one? I'd tell you to get XSite Pro. Why? Because your objective is to "make affiliate revenue sites" not learn html. So, if you choose to go with XSite Pro, you'll be "up to speed" and making those sites in just a couple of days. Get XSite Pro ==> http://www.cdzn.com/xsp - - Adv - - Quick and Easy Portals for Clickbank Revenue Looking for a new way to build profitable portals? Clickbank Niche Builder ==> http://www.cdzn.com/cnb - - /Adv - - What's the Real Worth of a Blog Network? Question: I'm trying to wrap my brain around blogging, and what Article Underground might do for us. It sounds like we are different from the web sites that they serve. We aren't necessarily interested in developing an Adsense program but we are interesting in increasing traffic. We sell quality e-courses. And our course instructors write articles for us monthly, so we already have hundreds of articles. Would some kind of "article announcements system" be of value to us? How can we find and get into a "blog network" that fits our niche? Answer: You can add article announcements and a blog network to your marketing mix. Even if you're not interested in AdSense, both strategies would benefit your site with incoming links and additional traffic. There are many article announcement tools available, the Content Desk - in my opinion - has some of the better ones that I've seen. And yes, articles can be a good source of incoming links. Content Desk ==> http://www.cdzn.com/cd The only trouble is, even with automated tools, submitting articles can be time consuming, and you're never sure if they'll accept the articles or not. Then, even if they do post the articles, there's no guarantee that the articles will ever venture beyond that site, and get syndicated or posted on other sites. What I can see helping your situation is the Article Underground's network of blogs. They are generic in nature and cover all sorts of different categories and topics. They were specifically designed with people like you in mind, so you could announce articles, regardless of their niche and type. Since you already have writers generating articles, you can announce them to the AU Blog network, and get instant incoming links from high PR pages. The trick is not to post your entire article on the blog... but just a short excerpt, like a single keyword rich paragraph, or teaser. In addition, you get to make a link to your article from the blog, using your keywords of choice. (Making the keywords in the link match the title of your article page, is one of the best SEO strategies.) Then click over to the next AU announcement blog in the list and repeat the process. Maybe a half dozen times or so. It only takes about a minute to create each one. There... all done. Now you have multiple incoming links from several different established pages, with good PR. Not only that, the AU membership is only a fraction of what it would have cost to buy those PR4 & 5 links just a few months ago. Ready to Join the Underground? ==> http://www.cdzn.com/au So bottom line is, even if you don't participate in the private forum, or plan on using the 400 articles that you get every month with your Underground membership, it's worth joining just for the Blog Network alone. - - - - - Hard Work and Focus Makes Dreams Come True Question: Michael, I found the last two issues of Internet Marketing Secrets inspiring. Thanks! I'm going to join Article Underground, get XSite Pro, the AdSense Videos, and go to work! I'm a beginner, but with these tools I should be ok. Thanks so much for putting it all together, since otherwise, it's really hard to find your way nowadays with so much stuff around. In addition to these tools, what other expenses would I have? How much should I allow for domain names and hosting, which companies do you recommend? Do you have any other recommendations that would enhance the focus I want to give to this program? I intend to work this 3-5 hours a day. Answer: Glad you liked the last couple of issues. Yes, with those three tools, you'll be well on your way to creating successful AdSense revenue sites. But unlike a lot of people, you'll probably end up in the top percentage of earners for several reasons. First, thanks to the Underground, you'll be creating valuable content sites for your visitors, and get incoming links from the blog network. Second, you'll be getting the maximum amount of clicks thanks to Cheney's testing on where to place the ads. Third, you'll be able to pump out good looking sites on a consistent basis thanks to XSite Pro. Domain names are less than 10 dollars a year at Godaddy.com. Hosting - for an entire year - can be found for the same price at Hostica.com. But if you're looking for "professional hosting for marketers" it's hard to top MaxNetHosting.com. You can set up 50 or more domain names on the same account, and each has their own control panel. You mention focus... which is key. It is the one thing, above all others, that will help you succeed. Go with these three tools for the first three months so you don't get distracted by other things. 1) Article Underground ==> http://www.cdzn.com/au 2) Cheney's AdSense Videos ==> http://www.cdzn.com/av 3) XSite Pro ==> http://www.cdzn.com/xsp The other KEY point, is that you mention the word "work" twice, and that you "Intend to work at this 3-5 hours per day." That's really all it takes. Think of it like starting a exercise or fitness program. For the first three months, you might have to drag yourself to the gym. After that, your body gets into a rhythm and you miss working out if you don't go :-) Making AdSense revenue sites is a lot like that. The more you put into it, the closer you get to your goals, whether it's having a little extra income or quitting the day job and kissing your boss goodbye. Dreams can come true. And I wish you all the success you can dream. With a little hard work and focus, your dreams become tomorrow's reality. They have to... they have no choice, for you have already lived them in your mind. And tasted them with your desire. Hold your focus and you will succeed. - - - - - WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT Simple Visualization Eliminates Procrastination My advice for novices... just get started. Fear, uncertainty and doubt, all melt away once you start taking action. For you intermediates facing the computer and not feeling like working today... Look at it this way. You have a pile of 100 stones and you have to move them. Every day life piles on two more stones. If you don't act, the next day you'll have 102 stones to move. Imagine how big the pile will be at the end of a week, or 160 stones by the end of a month. Stay with that image in your mind... feel the pain. Ok... here's how to feel better. If you act on it now, and remove five stones per day, even though two get added per day, you're down to 97 stones at the end of the day. Tomorrow 94. Pretty soon, you'll be able to keep up with just maintenance, moving two stones per day. Getting motivated is as simple as that little visualization. Just think of how big the pile will get and how much more there will be to do, if you don't do something about it. Don't just think about it. Write it down on a sticky note and paste it to your monitor. Make a promise to yourself that you'll do it. Now imagine for a moment the task is complete. Imagine how good you'll feel. Close your eyes and relax a moment, enjoying having accomplished what you promised yourself that you would achieve. Open your eyes again. Remember how good it felt getting it done. Remember how bad it felt procrastinating over the big pile of stones. Now which way would you rather feel at the end of the day? Procrastination leads anxiety and fear. Taking action leads to peace and happiness. Which path will you choose for today, tomorrow... and the rest of your life? _/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/ That's it for this issue my friend. Thank you for reading.
